KNIGHTS of COLUMBUS SACRED HEART COUNCIL 2577 St.JOHN N. NEUMANN ASSEMBLY 1763 Accolade Nov. |
|
Chaplain’s Report Rev. Msgr. Charles Parry November is the month of Holy Souls. These are the deceased members of the faithful for whom we pray with the hope and expectation of eternal glory! These souls undergoing purgation for sin experience relief and consolation as an effect of our prayers. November 2nd is the Feast of All Souls, and yet the entire month is a time of special prayer for them. It is wonderful to remember the dead; it is even more wonderful to pray for them! Every Mass includes prayers for the faithful departed, but during November we pray for the Holy Souls in a particular way at every Mass. It is a loving act of charity to pray for the deceased and the Church takes this obligation seriously enough for her fallen members. This is the very reason why it is laudable and good for us to have Masses offered for the deceased. A Mass offered for a deceased individual is powerful in that it is not only the prayers of the priest celebrant, or the prayers of those attending the Mass, but the deceased individual is the recipient of the prayers of the whole Church! What a gift indeed! With love and affection for the deceased of our own families, let us present them before the throne of Almighty God in prayer and thanksgiving! ______________________
Grand Knight’s Report Kevin Kylus (410) 451-8855 kkylus@comcast.net The first quarter of the Fraternal Year has come and gone and our reports have been sent to the State Council. Thanks to our Program Directors for this and thank you to all the members for supporting the Council’s activities so far this year, please continue to do so and invite another member to join you. The First Friday Mass for November is our Memorial Mass; we will be remembering all of the Council’s members who have gone before us. Keep these men in your thought and prayers through out the month. Many local organizations will benefit from another successful Tootsie Roll Drive. Thank you to all who worked a shift collecting donations and to Dave Grabowski and all the Captains for coordinating our efforts. Amy and I would like to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving! Knight of the Month for October – Rick Marek, our Fraternal Activities Director. Rick ran the End of Summer Bash as well as helped with this year’s Crab Feast. Thank you Rick for all you do. Family of the Month for October – The Garner’s. PGK Mike, Tiffany, Charlie and Bennett. It is rare that you can be at the Hall and not see one of the Garner’s working. The whole family worked hard to make this year’s Crab Feast a success. Thank you all! ______________________ District Deputy’s Report Vernon Hawkins, PGK, FN, FDW(301) 336-0284 vhawkinsjr@aol.com November is the month in which the Knights of Columbus remembers our departed members and their families. Our Order makes it a point to remember all of our Brothers and Sisters that have passed away, especially those over the past year, at special Masses. Please make it a point to attend this year’s Memorial Mass, to remember all of our Family members that have passed away. Please remember our Widows especially during this. Remember that the Knights were founded to support our Widows and Orphans. Thanks to all the Councils in the District for getting there First Quarter Surge for Service reports in on time. This continues our excellent progress this year. Also, congratulations to all our active District Councils for their excellent recruitment progress, so far. I know all of our Councils will be well on the way to meeting their quota by the end of December. During this month of Thanksgiving, please remember to support our State Charity Program. This is another way you can continue to help a Brother Knight or community member in their time of need. Are you ready for a little “Pool” “Shuffleboard”? The District #6 “Shuffleboard and Pool Challenge” will be held on Friday, November 14th at Sacred Heart Council, starting promptly at 6:30 P.M. Bring the entire family. There will be fun, games, prizes, and food galore for one and all. The Contest of Champions will commence shortly after 7 P.M. I wish everyone a very special and prayerful Thanksgiving. Don’t forget to VOTE! Vivat Jesus! ______________________ Deputy Grand Knight’s Report Andrew Jacobson (240) 476-5268 andrew.jacobson@cfsan.fda.gov November has arrived and will be another busy month for Sacred Heart Council. The 4th Degree Patriotic Breakfast scheduled for November 9th will take precedence over the Council’s Sunday Family Breakfast this month. This is by no means a negative as our 4th degree members always produce an impressive and enjoyable program in this. The 1st and 3rd Friday Family Dinners are scheduled on the 7th and 21st, respectively, with the First Friday Mass being our Council Memorial Mass for deceased Brother Knights of Sacred Heart Council. Brother Joe Novotony will prepare his infamous Crabcake Dinner to follow Mass. The Hall will be prepared for the Christmas Season on the 30th of this month. This year, Boswell Hall is the venue for the State Council’s Christmas Party; so bring any aesthetic penchant with your spirits for the festive occasion of “Deck the Hall”. A quarter of the Fraternal Year is now behind us. Upon review programs have been relatively successful. Program Directors, with the help of a few generous Brother Knights, have, however, really extended themselves to achieve this. We’ve got a ways to go with a full slate of activities scheduled. Please consider offering your time and talent in the programs. Have a wonderful and safe month. ______________________ |
